Ankle sprains, swelling and instability

Ankle strains, swelling and instability: a “twisted ankle” or weakness of the ligaments and muscles can lead to an unstable joint. This results in frequent “tripping over” on uneven ground, swelling and an unsafe feeling when asked to stand on one foot.

Physiotherapy can help to reinforce all the structures around the ankle with foot exercises, balancing exercises and if needed with special strapping or supports. Electrotherapy can also be used to reduce the swelling.

What most people don’t know is that a dysfunction of the TMJ, whatever the cause, can be the origin of many aches and pains in the neck, face and head.

Heavy and unusual physical work can cause sore muscles and a heavy feeling in the lower back, neck, arms and even legs. This feeling usually is more noticeable when we try to move after a period of rest and disappears when we start moving around and it is usually forgotten about after a couple of days.A hot bath and a massage will help to make you feel better and get ready for another hard day.

We are pleased to announce that we are running courses of six Pilates classes at swissphysio on Thursdays starting on Thursday 24th April. Pilates is a form of exercise which focuses on the “core “or postural muscles. The slow and controlled movements help to strengthen the muscles which support the spine, which in turn keep the body balanced. Carried out correctly, Pilates can help to relieve back pain and improve abdominal muscle strength.
