Lipoedema
Lipoedema is typically characterised by large fatty deposits mainly on the hip/pelvic area to the ankles on both legs giving an appearance similar to that of riding breeches. The rest of the body is usually slim in comparison. In addition to the fat deposits oedema can be present due to poor drainage and circulation. It can be accompanied by pain and tissue tenderness in the affected areas. The skin bruises easily and can feel cold to the touch. Dieting and exercise, whilst reducing weight and size in the rest of the body typically has little effect on the lipoedema.
Treatment
Compression garmenting can be used where there is no pain to the touch. Where there is pain Manual Lymphatic Drainage is used to reduce the pain to allow for compression.
Lymphoedema and Lipodema are medical conditions that require a specific treatment protocol and as such require a confirmation of a medical diagnose before any form of treatment can begin.
